| Olympic Handover |
| We would like to invite you to take part in this ceremony which will take place on Sunday 24th August to coincide with the handover of the Olympic flag to London to mark the start of the 2012 cultural Olympiad. |
| South Gloucestershire Council has been awarded an official handover flag which will be raised at 4.00 p.m. at Kingswood Civic Centre by Cllr Brian Freeguard, chairman of South Gloucestershire Council. |
| We would like to invite residents and sports groups to come along to witness the flag raising wave your own flags and make 2 minutes noise a creative antidote to the “two minutes’ silence” often used to mark more solemn moments in time. |
| There will be an opportunity for photos and a commemorative postcard will be distributed on the day, so please come along. |
| If you are coming as a sports group / club please let us know and we
try to get the photographer to take a group photo. Please contact: Naomi.Webber@southglos.gov.uk to let us know the name of the club. |
| If you have club flags or logos to wave on the day please bring them
to make a colourful afternoon. Please assemble outside the Kingswood Civic Centre, High Street, Kingswood , BS15 9TR by 3.45 p.m. the flag will be raised from the balcony above. |

| South Gloucestershire Leisure will offer free swimming sessions on the Sunday 24th August to mark the occasion. |
| The free sessions are:
4.00pm - 6.00pm Bradley Stoke Leisure Centre 2.00pm - 4.00pm Kingswood Leisure Centre 2.30pm - 4.30pm Longwell Leisure Centre 2.30pm - 4.30pm Yate Leisure Centre 1.30pm - 3.30pm Thornbury Leisure Centre |
| While South Gloucestershire Council athletics track at Yate Outdoor Sports Complex will be open for free use between 2.30pm and 4.30pm. |
